Hi Andy, In the city I believe a car can't beat the scooter. Especially when in a photo hunting, the scooter saves time. Of course it won't be as useful in a photo safari in Africa :)
Talking about close proximity, don't worry; I'll just point out my tripods to any closing car. We'll be good. I'll carry my Manfrotto with pointed feet. Couldn't wait!
