Anyone tried the Sigma 300/2.8?

I'm in the market for a 300mm/f2.8. The Sigma is the most
affordable but I'm wondering if anyone here has any experience
with it. If it's no good I'll probably have to hold out until I
find a used 300/2.8 somewhere and as I want autofocus, it could
be a long wait!
