I think it has changed a bit. It's a little less quirky and a lot 
wealthier. Most of the small bungalows have been razed and replaced 
with what they call "Birmingham Big Foots." Those are giant houses on 
small lots. And while Birmingham has trees, Bloomfield Hills is 
considerably more wooded. It's interesting that you note that Detroit 
never annexed the suburbs. There are even suburbs within the city 
limits, like Highland Park and Hammtramack. Perhaps that's why Detroit 
is so segregated. In many other big cities, "integration" is 
artificial. It's just a matter of annexing white suburbs to maintain 
appearances.
