You get a lot of heat generated in the cell and likely in the shorting load which can lead to burns and potentially explosion.

Or, if you are trying to start your bike by shorting the main battery lead to the starter solenoid and you touch the frame with the key you are using, you get "elaY" printed on your thumb. Yaroo!
