Yes, this lens does have the rather larger flange, compared to my other lenses which do work okay, that you mention.
Can someone point me to link for the steps to remove it? I also took it into a local shop yesterday, and the bloke there said "cut it off with an angle grinder" -- which sounds a bit harsh to me!
Thats pretty much what you are going to be doing to it. You will need to remove it from the lens first. Sorry, I don't have anything better than that for you.
