In manufacturing, that *is* the definition of obsolete.

At my last job, one of my responsibilities was dealing with part
obsolescence; discrete semiconductors, crystals, oscillators, relays.
The day manufacturing ceases on a part it's considered obsolete and I
had to begin a search for a replacement. 

I don't miss that job :)
