It was strange to read about your experience with Pentax Canada.  I've been there many times (I live fifteen minutes away, and often buy accessories like SMC filters there) and have always been impressed with the service.  For example:  loose zoom ring on FA 28-200 fixed in three days, out of adjustment diaphagm on FA 28-70 f4 reset in five minutes while I waited (I'd just gone in to see if there was a problem with the used lens, as something didn't look right).
 
The service manager and the two technicians that I've spoken with seem very friendly and knowledgeable.  You must've got a trainee on his first day or something.
