RE: 58mm normal lenses

I think these 58mm lenses existed for one or two reasons:

1. 58mm allowed 100% magnification thru the viewfinder
2. 58mm was minimum focal length possible without having
to resort to a retrofocus optical design.

I think they disappeared for one reason:

1. 58mm is too long for a general purpose lens on
35mm format, 40-50mm is much more versatile...
