they tried with the 760m, as Rob said. demand was so low and there were 
quality problems with the ones that were produced.

There could be lot of demand. If all it takes is to not install the
colour filter array, and new firmware, to get a superb-resolution
high-iso B&W camera...
Imagine a true 6MP B&W dslr with very clean base iso 500-800 and pushed up 
to
8000-12500... (based on the Kodak difference in iso between normal and
monochrome body).
