That's essentially what I use, although I was able to get a sheet of white translucent plastic from TAP plastics, a small chain store that specializes in ... ta da! plastic ;-)) I also sometimes use similar sheets to put over the windows when the sun is low in the sky or too bright. There's also some black sheets (not plastic) here for darker backgrounds, as well as a few sheets of medium grey.
