We accept post weight in grams, but still buy (or at least ask) for meat by
the pound or fraction thereof. We buy petrol in litres but know how many
miles per gallon our cars do. Most folk will understand distances in
kilometres and miles but not someone's height in meters and centimetres,
only feet and inches. I still look at things for 50 pence and think how poor
it looks for Ten Shillings!!
