I transport mine installed on a body in a Tamrac backpack with the hood
reversed and lens cap installed. Been doing it this way ever since I got it,
eight years ago, with no apparent ill effects. I can't imagine any benefit
of transporting with the hood extended, in fact with it extended, you can't
install the lens cap - bad for keeping lens front element dust free..
