What's wrong with that? <http://jfwaf.com/Panoramas/> shows three images I have stitched together from multiple *ist-D frames. The full-sized versions are 14400 pixels wide. While that only translates to 100ppi on a 4-metre long print, that should be more than enough for the viewing distances typical for looking at a print of that size. (In fact I'm thinking of doing almost exactly that with two of them, when I get round to picking up a suitable roll of paper for my inkjet printer, and hanging one above the sliding door out to the patio, and the other on an 11' wide section of wall above the slight step up to the dining area).
