Hi Conrad,

(Discussion about large aperture lenses and accurate focusing)
[Snak]

Another point to consider is that the camera might be faulty.
If the mirror is not accurately placed (and we are talking
_small_ fractions of a millimetre here) then what you see in the
viewfinder is not what you will get on the film.

The framing will not be out by a discernable amount, but, when
using large apertures, what you focus on on the screen will not
be tranferred to the film. This is often seen as an extreme
example in the LX "won't focus on infinity" syndrome. A
by-product of this is "it's not focused on what you think it is"
syndrome, whereby the film plane (ie. the resultant image) focus
appears further back in the picture than the focus in the
viewfinder, causing you to question your eyesight and go and buy
an expensive autofocus camera. Of course this works perfectly,
so confirming your diagnosis of old age creeping up......

Can you tell that this is personal experience talking?
