once you have converted to TIFF, you have committed to a particular 
interpolation from the Bayer pattern. whatever artifacts there are from the 
interpolation can't be removed without losing something else. that's why you 
don't throw away the RAW files.

It means nothing to a photographer. It means something to someone 
interested in the design and implementation of data file formats. :-)
