I like this version over the first, through both are interesting shots.

I was a little confused by the first shot because it was not clear that the larger snake body was another snake. So, with v 1 I first spent sometime thinking about how a snake could get twisted around like that and then realized that there was a larger snake in the image.

Ok, here is version 2. Not sure if I like it better or not. The
fewer bright spots seems better and seeing mom in the corner is nice -
but the tighter look of the first sort of jumps at you.

PS: okay, I haven't seen the first one yet, but I really like this
one a lot. I really don't mind snakes at all. In fact, I think I
prefer them to Canada Geese. At least they don't poop all over the
grass, they tend to try to avoid human contact if at all possible, and
they don't smell. I mean they do smell (with their tongues, right?),
but they don't emit odors (that I'm aware of). So, snakes are okay.
What I like about this photo is that you've cropped it to make it look
like we're in a snake pit or something. Or, you actually were in a
snake pit, in which case you've conveyed that feeling very well. Very
interesting photo.
