Your shot looks very nice and sharp, Don. Even in the corners/edges. Amazing
clouds!
I've been studying my test shots a little closer. (I tested all my lenses
wide open and at f2.8 - f4- f5.6 and f8 - all the talk about the Limited
lenses started this). The Tamron Adaptall 28mm has better/higher contrast,
thus appears to be sharper. But the A 2.8/28mm actually render better
resolution/richness of distinguishable detail. I guess a lens maker
considers the Pentax-A 2.8/28mm a better lens, even though it appears less
sharp/contrasty. So, for low contrast subjects I may use the Tamron. Where
high resolution/fine detail and subtle colours is required, I'll use the
Pentax, which actually is a nice walk-around lens for the *ist D. I'm glad I
finally got the focusing helicoids adjusted :-)

There's a SMC Pentax-F 17-28mm Fisheye f/3.5-4.5 up for auction at ebay (USA
only). Would this give a lot of distortion on a "D", do you think? I have
become increasingly fond of F-lenses. They are really better built than they
look. I only have two and one AF adapter. They just work and work and work.
And seem a lot better, than the rather toyish design suggests!

Look at the 50mm range of the F 4-5.6/35-80mm (@ F4 and F5.6)comparede to FA
1.4/50mm and M 1.7/50mm:

Here's a sample from the A28/2.8 on Superia 400.
This was saved for web at 800x540 from a store
scan of 1800x1215.
Some nice clouds from the other day, shows the
flare resistance of the A28.
No filter or hood.
At either 5.6 or 8.
