Actually, to be fair the reason that the GTO isn't selling well is that it isn't flashy enough, hence the redundant bonnet scoop on the latest model. It seems that US buyers want a car that makes a visual statement (like the new Mustang) rather than something that goes hard and handles well (for a sedan). You can get some of that idea from the old GTO crowd, even if it does sound like they would be happier with vinyl seats, a three speed and live axle.
That opinion by the way comes from an engineer at HSV who I know through the Bolwell car club. He still laments the cancellation of the 427 project which he thinks would have given the Monaro/GTO all the street cred it needed. Our club treasurer uses a Monaro as his daily driver (replacing an E55 Merc) and is very happy with it but has a Ferrai soft top for the weekends. Paul Ewins Melbourne, Australia
