On 22/4/05, Frantisek, discombobulated, unleashed:

Oh dear oh dear oh dear :-)

I haven't operated with a sound recordist since 1987!! 100% of UK TV news
is shot single-person. I monitor sound either through cans (headphones)
while on a tripod, or through a speaker in the side of the camera when
handheld. Either way, a PPM (audio level meter) is observed in the
viewfinder with a gain adjustment wheel (controlling the sound level
input from one of the two microphones, one camera-mounted, one held by
the reporter when conducting interviews). Even the reporter's mic is not
tethered to me - I use a wireless Sennheiser system so I'm free of cables.

The tripod is always a problem!

What i tend to do is get a few on the sticks, then go handheld and get as
close as possible and do some wacky angles and Theraultian blur.

I'd love to shoot a fashion show with stills though......

Cheers,
  Cotty
