Apple's success is due more to good product, good PR and word-of-mouth cult status than advertising. The ads play a role, but other factors are much more important. And that's from an ad guy.

Sure, but they do have a lot in common. The users have chosen not to follow the masses and advertising campaigns . They represent the independent users who like to make their own decisions (and mistakes) .-)
