Sorry it took so long to get to it:
PowerBook G3 (Pismo) 500Mhz, 768M RAM :: 24 seconds from clicking the OK button in ACR to an open image window in Photoshop CS. Not fast, but usable for my purposes so far.
For sake of comparison: with the iMac 20" G4, 1.25Ghz, 1G RAM desktop system, RAW converting the same file takes about 8 seconds (measured the same way, of course).
I suspect a Power Macintosh G5 2Ghz DP machine would be very fast indeed...

Hi Frantisek,
It takes 18 seconds to process a RAW file on my laptop [iBook G3 700Mhz, 640M RAM]. But it's not a pismo. It's a G3 700 laptop with 640 meg RAM. These machines are a bargain as well and a bit faster than the fastest pismos. Some of them had early motherboard failures and Apple ended up replacing them for free even if they were out of warranty. This machine had its board replaced. I suspect that any that are still out there and working either had good boards to start with or had them replaced. I don't know if Apple will still replace one that fails, probably not for a second owner.

Hi,
thanks for all the tips. I will be looking for a G3 pismo most probably. The nice feature is the ability to use two batteries, when one doesn't need a CD drive.
firewire is nice too, as I guess ATA drives will be phased out by SATA drives so a bigger drive won't be an option in the future, but for the few years more, it would do I hope.
Just for comparison, how long does it take to process an IstD raw file, Paul?
The notebook I would like most is one of the rugged notebooks this US maker does (PCs), but they are really expensive... :-(
Thanks, Frantisek
