Boris, you also might want to ask him if he's doing any "in camera" processing as far as saturation, sharpening etc.
Also are you trying to compare your digital images to similar film images? I prefer Velvia when I shoot film and consequently when processing digital images I try to give them a Velvia look (more saturated).
