Interesting !

Built 1860something, decommissioned in 1972. During that time, it was the sole provider of pumped water for the town of Sunderland. One pump would run until it needed overhaul, whereupon the other would take over. You can see some of the overhaul mechanisms in the bottom corners of the frame. Luckily, a number of people foresaw the closure and prepared properly in order to preserve it. The engines now run every Bank Holiday for the pleasure of sad old gits like myself.
