Well, I went off list for a while, when I put Mom in a nursing home for a
week to get a rest. Then I have been involved in other things. Mom is had been
home for a long time, none the worst for wear, although the nursing home lost
1/2 her clothes and one of her hearing aids and I had to sue them in small
claims court. That is a long, long story that isn't finished yet. And I doubt I
will share more here -- but beware if you have an aged relative with dementia
--
nursing homes may not be good places for them. I have done much better with
hired caregivers at home. And if I ever put her somewhere again so I can get a
rest, I think I will go with a private home that takes in people. Nursing homes
are understaffed and the staff is stressed and overworked and maybe not that
good either -- undertrained.
==================

On to the Image Tank saga. As some of you know, I bought an Image Tank about
a year ago and used it about four times during that year and after the last
time it went belly up. Didn't work. I had used it on a NorCal PDML meet in San
Jose and it still had pictures on it on it. So I went to Fry's and they removed
the laptop hard disk, and I got the pictures off it, and shared some on PDML.

I had written the manufacturer and they said they weren't the manufacturer
(as it turns out). I shared that on this list.

Then several on the list said write mydigitaldiscount.com where I had
originally bought it.

I had doubts they would do anything since it had been over a year since I
bought it. Well, with one thing and another (mainly Mom stuff), I didn't get
around to writing them until about three weeks ago. I also felt I had to find
the
receipt -- but it turns out I could just have gone to mydigitaldiscount.com
since they keep the receipts on file with one's account info.

I finally wrote them. They said the warranty (they give a year's warranty on
things, which I had not really thought about at all), had expired by TWO
WEEKS. I felt totally dumb. But, OTOH, I had thought it had expired by months.
I
really hadn't paid any attention to that.

So I said, "Hey, I am on a camera list of 500 people. Think of all the good
things I can say about mydigitaldiscount.com. Besides, I obviously got a lemon."

So here is what they did --

He (the customer service representative I talked to/back and forth through
emails) sold me an extended warranty (which, I obviously, had to really buy at
the time I bought it, or before the year's warranty had run out). He also sold
it to me at a major discount.

Then he let me return the Image Tank. He was going to exchange it for
another, newer model, but I took a look at it, and it looked exactly the same
(in the
web picture). I didn't want another one, no way I would trust one again.
Besides, I had thought from the beginning that it was poorly made even before
it
went belly up.

Since I bought the Image Tank for $200 originally, I tried to get him to let
me exchange it for a storage device with picture review (the Image Tank had
none) that now sells for $250 -- with me paying $50 more for the difference.
See, the price of the Image Tank has gone way down from when I first bought it.

With one thing and another he said he couldn't do that, they wouldn't
consider it a comparable exchange. I couldn't really argue with that -- and I
didn't
figure arguing would get me anywhere either. :-) I did want a working storage
device without having to pay a lot more money, get something out of the
defunct Image Tank purchase. (I could have gotten one with picture review with
spending another $150, but that would have been pointless. I wouldn't really
have
gotten any benefit out of my original Image Tank purchase.)

So I agreed to pay $20 more to get a Vosonic X-Drive VP2160. No picture
review, but pretty small and probably more reliable than the Image Tank. (Let's
hope.)

While I'd prefer picture review, when I originally bought the Image Tank, one
could only get it on a few really expensive devices. (BOY, things change in a
year).

The Vosonic will be arriving next week. I am happy. I really just wanted a
working storage device and not feel I had p***ed money away on the Image Tank.

And I said I would rave about mydigitaldiscount.com. So here's my rave --

They didn't have to sell me an extended warranty so I could return the Image
Tank. I felt this customer service representative really worked with me to
reach a mutually happy solution.

I always felt mydigitaldiscount.com was a pretty good place, now I *know*
they are.

RAVE, RAVE, RAVE. ;-)
