I believe Pentax USA works that way now also. BTW they are supposedly shipped from the Phillipines not Japan. The come from the various factories to the distribution center there, and are forwarded to the dealers in various parts or the world. Very efficient as long as what you want is in the pipeline. If not you may have to wait a long time, because they no longer stock slow moving stuff in a warehouse, so you have to wait for the next production run.
Another advance in retailing brought to you by people who know money is what is
important (Ivy League MBA's). I wonder when they will figure out that not
selling anything will save billions on distribution costs and advertising.
Hum...? Maybe they have.

The bodies were shipped directly from Japan. (By the way, an FA 35/2 was also sent, so this lens is readily available in Canada.)

Not that clear. What I should have said is that Pentax Canada does not have a warehouse anymore. It is cheaper for them to have the pieces shipped directly from Pentax in Japan to the different authorized dealers. The 35/2 took less than 2 weeks to arrive.
