Maybe 1.5x the length of typical Pentax wide prime?  :-)  It's difficult to 
evaluate
the size without actually holding it in your hands. Sometimes a little 
difference
could have a huge impact on how you feel. I personally can live with its size
although I also feel it's a little large, but what I don't like is the fixed 
hood.
If you plan to use rectangular filters, FA35/2 might be a better buy, though 
there
is a work around with the FA31/1.8. What were the engineers thinking anyway btw?

I don't have FA35/2, but FA31/1.8 performs well optically both closeup & wide 
open.
I am not aware of any other Pentax primes in similar range have such 
performance.
But not surprisingly, it incorporates floating elements and glass AL design, 
both
are quite rare for Pentax.
