If so, you are right, it is not so easy, but bear in mind that it is very wide angle lens, so focusing isn't easy no matter what matte is used. However you should try D7D with M or ML screens - both give very sharp focus and out-of-focus areas definition, probably even better than in *istD, but that's just my feeling as I didn't compare them directly and with similar lenses.
