yes, Gitzo uses their own QR plates, but you can remove the stock threaded support and substitute any Arca-Swiss-compatible QR system clamp from Kirk Photo or Really Right Stuff. the rub is that the clamp will cost you more than your budget. there are generic plates for the LX, some of which will fit the *istD. they are not cheap new, although much less expensive than a dedicated plate. the Gitzo 1377M with the Really Right Stuff LLR-II QR clamp will set you back about $325 street prices, and then you have to add plates.
