I'll second the Watkins Glen suggestion.  It's stunning.  I don't know
how close the Finger Lakes are to the Catskills, but the scenery is
gorgeous around there.  Lots of wineries, too.  <vbg>.

I rather regret that I was on a decade-long "photographic sabbatical"
when I visited the area.
