so long as the mounting point is above the pivot point, any movement unbalances everything. gimbaled heads are the best way to avoid this. no, you don't need one, but trust me, you don't want to work that way.

I am more and more being attracted to the Wimberly heads.
All that seems out there at the moment is the WH100 or WH101 (I can get them from a shop in Calgary, which relatively speaking, is close by). Do you know any advantage of one ove rthe other? The WH101 is quite a bit more expensive.
