The KX is a step up from the KM. It has a different light meter, which is more sensitive and accurate, especially in low light. In the viewfinder you have aperture readout on the top (commonly out of alignment, so check to make sure it works on a used KX), and shutter speed on the right side - a translucent blue needle points to the shutter speed selected with the shutter speed dial, and a black needle points to the shutter speed recommended by the light meter. Simply match the two needles for correct exposure. The KX is also one of the three Pentax K mounts with MLU (the other two are the K2 and LX). There is a KX MOT that accepts a motor drive, but it's expensive (KEH had one for $250+). There is also a KM MOT but it's rare.
