The total number of shutter actuations is buried in the PEF files' maker notes. A TIFF file analysis tool can pull it out if you know what you're looking for (PEF files are a TIFF enclosure). John Francis knows what to look for.
I've also fitted the Pentax Grip Strap F to the Ds. It feels very comfy and natural in the hand.
