E-TTL2 is Canon's current label for their automated, integrated flash system. i-TTL is Nikon's current label for their automated, integrated flash system. P-TTL is Pentax current label for their automated, integrated flash system.

All three combine flash exposure control along with ambient light exposure metering, using various features of body and lens. Sometimes they work marvelously, makes taking photos with flash as easy as taking a photo on an ideal sunny afternoon.

At other times, all of them screw up. :-)

What do all those acronyms mean?

E-TTL2 and i-TTL seem to be massive improvements over earlier systems. P-TTL seems to be mostly that way, but it also seems to have issues with
the onboard flashes.
