I'd recommend against using a 2X with the f/4 Cosmicar. But your assertion 
the combination is "slow" is right but with faster film (unless there you 
feel you ~must~ shoot ISO 100 or slower film), just doesn't hold water.

I often used f/8 mirror lenses at air shows, dialing in the 1/2 stop 
compensation in the camera. Otherwise, mirror lenses must be used on 
tripods/monopds and with deep (2"+) lens hoods.
