According to the link I displayed, he thought Provia had a yellowish cast. I wonder if the power of suggestion and the makining of a comparison do not come into play.

With wine it seems, the suggestion of the label or someone else's comments can easily influence others (and myself to taste those very same flavors).

Possibly comparing film A to film B, neither of which may be neutral, and both of which may tend towards opposite directions in the spectrum, one can reach a conclusion that is different from what would otherwise be held.

Of course subjectivity may indeed be the primary difference.

There is no color cast problem with Velvia. Interestingly, there is indeed one for Provia F (at least the first few years - maybe they've fixed it now); a rather unpleasant (in my opinion) greyish bluish cast.
