Lying in the mud is to avoid scaring the birds, not for any (artistic)
photographic reason. Still, live preview might make it even easier to keep
your head down.

Yes, but your head is always going to be just as high as the viewfinder
anyway. Might as well have a clear, bright viewfinder than a useless
LCD (my opinion).
