I'm of the opinion that it is 360 degree panorama, it stitches flawlessly and the in the QTVR player the curved horizon'tals in the jpg image end up being rendered ruler straight. My bet is it's shot from the top of the building adjacent Notre Dame on Rue du Cloitre-Notre-Dame, looking from here through 360degrees using Google Earth reveals a similar scape.
