I've been quite pleased with my Option S5i, but it only gets used for snap shooting ... the *ist D gets used for anything that needs any sort of specialized equipment or a short "lock time" (time from pressing the shutter button to the shutter actually firing). The "lock time" on the S5i is like that on any P&S I've used, film or digital, which is to say it's longer than on the *ist D or MZ-S.
