Thanks so much for the help! We were planning on spending a couple of nights in Heraklion and then heading west. The mountains and villages around Rethymno sound very interesting to me, and I was going to have us spend four nights there and explore the area, but do you think we would get bored there? Now I'm begininng to think we should do Rethymno for two nights and Chania for three or something like that. Plakia sounds nice as well. We are definitely low-key when it comes to food. We'd rather eat good food from a cheap local place than some fancy restauarant that caters to tourists. We'll make a point of trying the raki. :)
