It used to work that way here to. A few years ago though a law was passed that made the service stations:
1) fix the price. ie no more changing it during the day 2) list their prices for the next day. The other big thing is that the 2 big supermarket chains have got into selling petrol. Now when you spend $20 on groceries you get 4c/litre off the price at the pump. It's a false economy IMO. Instead of spending $50 it costs about $48. People flock to get this "cheaper" petrol & then the independent service stations close down because they can't compete. Before you know it the supermarket chains have a monopoly in your area.
