I've seen recently some small, low-profile lightboxes - just like
ordinary lightboxes, really, only thinner. There's a suggestion from
those with a vested interest (i.e. makers, sellers) that these 'light
panels' can be used to scan negatives and transparencies on a flatbed
scanner.
The arithmetic looks promising, at least at a basic level: a 600 dpi
scanner ought to be able to generate a file of about 840x560 dots from a
36x24mm frame - enough for on-screen use, which is all I'm concerned
about. Since I need a lightbox anyway and the thin ones don't cost much
extra, I'm thinking of giving it a try, but before I do, has anyone here
tried it, and if so, with what degree of success?
TIA,
Clive.
