If Pentax USA works the same way Pentax Canada does, the "kit" is simply the discount that the retailer gets for buying a camera and lens at the same time. The best deals are naturally on the "kit" lens, but back when I was selling cameras (and when the 43mm Limited came out, I was just leaving that job) we would sell a body that had been bought as a "kit" by itself and then order a replacement for it along with an 80-320 or some other lens that would be bought as a standalone later to get the "kit" price again.
