At least for the "American" gallon, it's 32 times 4 (Four quarts in a
gallon) or 16 times 8 (pints). Being red-blooded American beer-drinking
computer science majors, we always drank "tall boys" (16 ounce beers)
because the math was base 2.  Trying to figure out how many gallons of
beer you'd consumed got to be quite a problem after the 15th or so 12
oz can. :-) I'm still trying to figure out how big a gill is.y
