I use one of the Stroboframes with flash quite often:

With this, or even with a long telephoto I find the wheels much more convenient.

When I use the bracket I'm always holding the assembly by the grip in
my left hand.  If I need to adjust the zoom, I'll usually even do that
with the right hand.  Since I wear nasty bifocals, I always trust the
auto-focus.  Not much reason to touch the lens.

When I'm not using the bracket, I zoom with the left hand.

I would not have believed that I would prefer the wheels before I used
them.  I got used to them in about 15 minutes.

On another note, someone said that having shutter control in the front
and aperture in the back was backwards.

To me it makes perfect sense.  The shutter control wheel is next to
the shutter button.
