Sharp spike by Sony was considered largely attributed to the loss of share
by Canon RebelXT (or whatever they call, 350D?) in this particular case.
The same should have happened with other makers (Pentax etc) but Alpha 100
is usually compared directly with the Canon's entry level. Rebel was
approaching the end of life and Alpha 100 ate into it. Both companies spent
a lot of ad dollars.
It is true that Pentax should have been able to get the share of the pie,
but they have been busy enough anyway (production capacity?) and it is a
moot point.

Cheers,

Ken
