Farmers really don't like them. I was staying at the farm of a friend of the family, sleeping in a tent in their backyard, when I was woken by the blast of a shotgun & squawking Cockatoos. That was quite a shock. :-) > The thing is, we don't have anything close to the parrots > that you guys have. The only parrot species in the US went extinct in > the 1800s. So traveling to Oz and seeing all the parrots (and how close > you can get to them!) is an awesome experience for a bird guy like me! I imagine it would be. They're not very afraid of people, especially at the tourist spots. Very smart too & make good pets (Although the common 2x2x2 foot cage isn't very humane) Around here in late spring, when the native trees are in flower, we get flocks of Sulphur-Crested Cockatoos, plain Black Cockatoos & Pink & Grey Galahs. They descend on a tree and bite off all the flowers & move on. It gets quite noisy early in the morning & late at night, and this is in the suburbs. Sound's like you had fun.
