I agree that the difference between PS v6.0 & CS2 is substantial, but
the basics haven't changed.

Curves, Levels, layers, layer masking, adjustment layers, USM (the
major tools for image processing as far as I'm concerned), are the
same. Once you have a firm grounding using those tools, then you can
start in on the extras offered in CS & CS2.
