I have seen many a lenses in my day and On well used examples the rubber DOES Wear down. Its just not that durable Compared to metal rings. jco

I've never had a rubber focussing grip wear down, I have noticed that at -20F, rubber grips are easier to hold onto and turn compared to knurled metal.
