They (the state government) just recently brought online a 45 gigalitre desalination plant here to help with the water shortage problem (aside: stable fresh water supplies are going to be a bigger issued than the world running out of oil IMHO). Anyone familiar with the reverse osmosis process knows that the large electric pumps needed consume huge amounts of electricity.
