Over at dpreview, a fellow posted a reply he got from Pentax USA about 
K10D image sharpness. Here's an extract that some of us are puzzled by:

 > If you prefer a sharper shot to a softer feel, then you will
 > probably wish to shoot in the DNG RAW format instead of PEF RAW or
 > JPG.
 > If you prefer a smoother image, then you will want to shoot in PEF
 > RAW or JPG.

And my question:

Why would DNG RAW produce a sharper image than PEF RAW?

Some people have suggested that ACR produces sharper images than PPL3, 
but that is not exactly what the Pentax guy said. After all, can't you 
process DNG images through PPL3?
